Nielsen Powless is breaking out into one of the best riders in the world. With a fifth place in the 2021 road World Championships Powless has grown even better in the last two years with 12th overall at the 2022 Tour and a fifth in the Tour of Flanders and seventh in Milan SanRemo Powless has shown some incredible versatility and ability to beat the best riders in the world.

Powless is currently fighting for the Polka Dot jersey at the 2023 Tour De France, having worn it for 14 days so far in this tour. Additionally Powless has already been selected for Team USA for the UCI World Championship in Glasgow this year.

Knowing how much protein to consume at meal times as well as throughout the day as a cyclist can sometimes be a little confusing.

The legs are tapered and have hems shaped to accommodate knee pads and a long 15-inch inseam. Instead of poppers, the shorts fasten with a short zip and sliding clasp, which is very secure.

HOW TO OPTIMISE YOUR PROTEIN STRATEGY FOR CYCLING

  • Neilson is Oneida on his father’s side and in 2020, he became the first tribally recognized Native North American to race the Tour de France.
  • He is only the sixth American to wear the Polka Dot jersey joining Nate Brown (2017), Taylor Phinney (2017), Tejay Van Garderen (2011), Greg Lemond (1986) and Marianne Martin (1984).
  • He was the American U23 road race national champion in 2017, winning a three man sprint ahead of Gage Hecht and Brendan Rhim.
  • While Neilson is only 26, he has been racing since he was very young and turned pro in 2018.
  • His first WorldTour team was Lotto NL Jumbo which is now known as Jumbo Visma.

There are three well-sized zippered pockets – two on the front and one on the rear. The high elastane content ensures stretch in all directions for an excellent fit, which can be altered via the adjuster tabs on the waistband.

There are 22 teams competing in the 2023 Tour de France Femmes. Many are homologues of the men’s teams, so they have almost the same bikes and equipment, even if the sponsor names are slightly different.

That number comprises the 15 Women’s WorldTour teams and seven invited teams from the second tier of women’s pro racing. The penultimate stage finishes atop the Col du Tourmalet. All eyes will be on Annemiek van Vleuten of Movistar to see if she can achieve her aim of completing the Vuelta-Giro-Tour treble in 2023, prior to her retirement later this year.

Most people are aware of roughly how many calories adult humans should consume, but protein can sometimes be overlooked or a confusing subject, with there being so much differing advice out there.

Although most commonly associated with bodybuilding and gym work, protein is essential for making the most of the effort you’ve put in when cycling, no matter whether you identify as a sprinter, a long-distance endurance rider or anything in between. Protein is crucial to recovery and without it, you may not reap the benefits of the hard work put in.

  • Bikes: Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7/Roubaix/Shiv (TT)
  • Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace
  • Wheels: Roval
  • Finishing kit: Roval, Specialized, CeramicSpeed, Tacx, Garmin

The Lite version of the popular SingleTrack II shorts features a familiar tailored fit and length with a ‘barely there’ feel, being lightweight and breathable without compromising durability. A zippered fly with a popper closure gives the shorts a clean look and elasticated Velcro adjuster tabs enable you to fine-tune the fit around the waist.

There are three well-sized zippered pockets – two on the front and one on the rear. The high elastane content ensures stretch in all directions for an excellent fit, which can be altered via the adjuster tabs on the waistband.

The 13-inch inseam length of the regular version works perfectly with knee pads, and the shorter 10-inch version is great without protection.

The PFC-free DWR coating worked well to ward off the worst summer showers and puddles, with the water beading on the shorts’ surface.

The Endura SingleTrack Lite shorts offer the perfect balance between keeping you cool in the heat, providing protection from the odd scrape and splash on the trail, and offering an exceptional fit.

Canyon-SRAM rider Ricarda Bauernfeind went solo with just under 36km to go and never looked back to win today’s Tour de France Femmes stage.

Bauernfeind attacked on the Côte de Laguépie with Brit Claire Steels (Israel-Premier Tech-Roland) but soon distanced the British rider and took off solo.

With co-operation in short supply in the reduced bunch behind she built a gap of 1-30 by 22km to go. Ace time trialist Marlen Reusser spent significant periods on the front of the bunch for her SD Worx team trying to create an opportunity for her team leader and yellow jersey holder Lotte Kopecky, but the gap remained stubborn and only reduced to 35 seconds.

A wide, elasticated back panel offers a fantastic fit, even if you have a much narrower waist than hips, and the shorts are cut high around the back, to keep you covered in the riding position.

As Bauernfeind crossed the line in Albi she clapped her hand over her mouth in disbelief.

The Tour stage win is easily the biggest of her career. A talented climber, she notched up third at the Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées last year and took the young rider jersey in the process. She has also held the U23 German road race and time trial titles.

She join’s yesterday’s stage winner Dutchwoman Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck) in claiming her first WorldTour win at this Tour. Kastelijn was also solo in her win into Rodez.

This included a €500,000 overall prize for champion Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma). The Dane received €581,720 throughout the course of the race for stage wins, placings on stages and climbs and spells in the polka-dot jersey.

Riders can earn money from all the main prizes, as well as on categorised climbs, intermediate sprints and even just finishing within the first 160 classified riders in the race.

A day in the King of the Mountains jersey was worth €300, while the top eight in the final mountains classification are rewarded at the end of the race.

The overall winner in 2022 received €25,000, while second place got €15,000. Vingegaard took the King of the Mountains prize in 2022, as well as securing overall victory.

Tour de France stage winner prize money

The winner of each stage earned €11,000 in 2022, as well as a place on the podium at the end of the day. Second place was worth €5,500, while the rider in third raked in €2,800.

In fact, every rider down to 20th place (€300) earned a share of the €28,650 on offer each day. Here’s the full breakdown for each individual stage classification.

  •  €11,000
  •  €5,500
  •  €2,800
  •  €1,500
  •  €830
  •  €780
  •  €730
  •  €670

If winning the stage also put a rider into the yellow jersey, there was an extra €500 up for grabs, with the same prize on offer for each day a rider wore the maillot jaune.

The rider in the yellow jersey on the final podium in Paris in 2022 won €500,000, with Vingegaard taking the spoils. The prize increased in 2016 and has remained the same since.

Second place went to Tadej Pogačar, earning him €200,000, with Geraint Thomas taking home €100,000 in third.

Each rider from fourth to 19th receives incrementally less money, and everyone from 20th place to 160th is awarded €1,000 for completing the roughly 3,500km course.

Following the success of the Fluid FS aluminium trail bike, Norco has introduced the new Fluid FS Carbon. The new bike drops 600g of frame weight in a package the brand claims takes fun and performance up a notch or two.

Three models are available, starting from $4,099 and topping out at $5,999, giving riders the option to go for a high-end aluminium build or a lower-spec carbon frame for a similar budget.

An integrated accessory mount is provided under the top tube, SRAM’s Universal Derailleur Hanger interface and a threaded bottom bracket.

Maria Victory

The main point of difference between this bike and the aluminium Fluid FS is the carbon fibre front triangle. The rear end is the same as the full-aluminium bike, keeping the Horst-link suspension layout and alloy rocker link.

The material may be new, but the geometry, 130mm of rear travel, suspension design and Ride Aligned Design System are maintained.

New Carbon front end, same alloy rear

  • Fork: RockShox Pike Select+, 140mm travel, 44mm offset
  • Shock: RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ custom tuned
  • Drivetrain: SRAM GX Eagle
  • Brakes: SRAM G2 R, 4-piston
  • Wheelset: WTB ST Light rims on Bear Pawls sealed bearing hubs
  • Price: £4,999/$4,999

The key difference in the Fluid FS Carbon is the new carbon fibre front triangle. Norco claims a weight saving of 600g without compromising strength or durability, saying it’s tested to the same degree as the aluminium version.

Just as the Ride Aligned Design System tailors the geometry, the brand claims the carbon layup and construction have been tuned to provide the correct strength and stiffness for all riders and frame sizes.

Trail-ready spec and multiple build options

The rest of the frame is shared with the aluminium version, including the rear triangle, rocker link and suspension kinematics. Norco claims this ensures it shares the same suspension performance, regardless of frame size or material.

The new Fluid FS Carbon is available now in three complete bike options, C1, C2 and C3, as well as a frameset-only option.

To go with the RockShox rear shocks, all complete-bike models get 140mm-travel RockShox Pike forks, four-piston brakes with big 200/180mm rotors, long-travel dropper posts and 800mm-wide bars to maximise control of the tubeless Vittoria Mazza/Martello tyre combo.

Prices kick off at £4,199/$4,099 for the base SRAM SX/NX-equipped C3 model, rising to £6,599/$5,999 for the C1 range-topper decked out in SRAM’s new GX Eagle Transmission.
